5 Things to do Immediately Following a Car Accident

11. 04. 2020

  1.  Pull over and call law enforcement. Even if you feel as though the accident is minor, getting the police involved and getting an accident report made will only benefit you in the long run.

  2. Exchange contact and insurance information with the other driver. The other driver may be hesitant, but remember you must protect yourself!

  3. Selfie time…just kidding! But seriously, ALWAYS TAKE PICTURES OF THE SCENE! If you want to file a claim, it is imperative that everything is documented. Many drivers will deny ever being involved in accidents to prevent dealing with the consequences. Combat this by taking photos.

  4. Seek medical attention immediately after the accident. Your adrenaline can kick in and you may not feel any injuries in the moment. We advise you to seek medical attention anyway. If you are told you need further treatment (or you feel as though your injuries aren’t improving), follow up. Your main focus is healing- you don’t want to be dealing with pain years after the accident.

  5. Call an attorney! You may be mistaken in thinking that your case is not worth much or that you can handle things on your own. Regardless you should consult with an attorney. An attorney can help you determine if you have a case, and if so, how much it may be worth.

Bonus: Do not speak with the other party’s insurance company before you speak to a lawyer. Definitely do not make a recorded statements. Anything that you say can be used against you later and can diminish the value of your claim.
